If you’re looking for a homemade snack mix with bold flavor: look no further! This homemade snack mix is filled with delicious ingredients and is perfect for gifting, road trip snacks, or to munch on at home.
Growing up, my dad would make a delicious snack mix that he learned from my grandma. I have always loved the bold, salty flavor in the mix. In fact, I loved it so much, we gave it out to guests at our wedding!
You have heard me say it before, and I’ll say it again; I’m looking for two things when it comes to a recipe:
- Guests vocally exclaim, “wow, this is amazing!”
- They ask me for the recipe.
The first time I made this to share with family, one member said it is “addicting” and another asked for the recipe. So here is another recipe that is in permanent ink on a recipe card! You’re going to want it in your collection too.
One aspect of this recipe that I love, is that it’s pretty easy to keep these ingredients on hand, and they’re inexpensive. So if something comes up and I need to bring a snack item, or bring snacks for a kids’ event, I have something on options.
You will find this recipe among my fall and winter favorites, but it’s great all year round. Because it is free of chocolate, it’s also a good one to pack when we’re out and about on a hot day. We bring it along on road trips for a car snack!
If you are looking for something to gift to multiple people like co-workers, teachers, etc., this is a great option. It makes a large batch and is inexpensive, so it’s perfect for packing in a mason jar and sharing with friends and family.
Tools you need:
- Large mixing bowl (I use a large tin foil pan to mix and bake)
- Liquid measuring cup
- Whisk
Ingredients:
- 1 bag stick pretzels (The original recipe calls for 2 bags, we prefer less)
- 4 heaping cups rice chex
- 4 heaping cups corn chex
- 4 heaping cups cheerios
- 1 can nuts of your choice (I usually use peanuts)
- 3 sticks butter (melted)
- 2 heaping Tbs Worcestershire sauce
- 1 heaping Tbs seasoned salt
- 1 heaping Tbs garlic salt
So, how do you make Homemade Snack Mix?
In a large foil pan, add the pretzels, rice chex, corn chex, cheerios, and nuts of your choice.
In a small bowl, mix together butter, Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, and garlic salt. Pour over dry cereal.
Bake at 225 degrees for 2.5 hours, stirring every 20 minutes.
Let cool before packaging.
Simple, and delicious!
A Few Notes:
If I only use 1 bag of pretzels, do I need to add more of the other ingredients?
Our family prefers the chex cereal over the pretzels, so I only add one bag of pretzels, instead of the 2 bags the recipe originally calls for. Because of this, I do usually add a cup or two of cereal.
Is it necessary to stir homemade snack mix every 20 minutes?
Yes! This recipe makes a large batch. Stirring the mix every 20 minutes ensures that all of your mix is covered with butter and seasoning. (Trust me, you will want every piece covered in this stuff!)
