Sharing is caring!

This list of fall mason jar gift ideas puts a fun twist on gifting with jars. These unique ideas are a perfect way to welcome in the fall season!

As the heat of the summer turns to crisp cool air, and smells of pumpkin-spice and apple cinnamon fill our kitchens, there are many gifts to share in this season. I compiled a list of my favorite fall goodies to share with friends and family. I prefer to gift them in jars, but these fall gifts can be given however works best for you!

If you have been around Home Sweet Harps for long, you know that I strive to be intentional with relationships in my life, and with that, comes gifting. When a need arises, I like to be prepared with a simple snack, meal, or idea to brighten someone’s day.

I also find it so important to teach gifting, and caring for others to my children. I want them to see a need and fill it, and often times, that’s with a simple gift. In our homeschooling, we like to welcome the new season with a variety of activities, and this usually includes gifting a seasonal gift to neighbors and friends.

These ideas are simple, cheap, and I typically have what I need on hand. I can grab a jar, fill it with a delicious snack or treat, and drop it off at a friend’s house same day.

Generally, most of the items in this list are made in a large batch, so I simply make a batch for my family, and add a small portion to a jar for a friend.

Jar with fall trail mix

Pumpkin Trail Mix

In the fall, I love making a seasonal trail mix with candy corn, candy corn pumpkins, or Reese’s Pieces to add some fall color. As my favorite snack, I usually have all the ingredients in my pantry. I just add some seasonal-colored mix-ins when gifting it to friends!

Holmes Family Snack Mix

A step up from traditional trail mix, this homemade snack mix is a family favorite from my dad’s side of the family. From my grandma, to my dad, and now to me, it runs in the family! We even served it at our fall wedding. You can find the recipe and details here.

Salted Caramel Coffee Creamer

I categorized this one as “fall,” but it can (and should be) given in any season. This winner from Jill Winger’s The Prairie Homestead Cookbook, is always a hit! Add this creamer to a coffee, or simply gift the creamer itself. I wrote about it here.

Dog treats

Yes, you read that correctly! One year, my son had the idea that not only our neighbors needed gifting, but so did our neighbor dogs. Thus, we added dog treats to the list. They’re in this section because of their fall flavors. We like this recipe because it’s so simple my kids can do it!

Fall simmer pot ingredients

I had a friend gift this to me, and I immediately added it to my list. Buying the ingredients for a fall simmer pot (great for winter too!) is such a simple, thoughtful present. It doesn’t take a lot to get that potent fragrance, so it’s a great idea for multiple friends, family members, or co-workers! Simple ingredients to keep around include:

  • Oranges
  • Cranberries
  • Cinnamon sticks
  • Allspice
  • Cloves
  • Anise Pods
Cough drops, medicine, and other health-related items in a jar

Get well jar

Everyone knows it stinks to be sick, especially with kids! Sometimes with fall, and back-to-school, you also get illness. A simple “get well jar” is such a thoughtful gift for sick friends or family. You can include soup mix, cough drops, crackers, tissues, and soda. Plus, if you keep these items around your house, you’ll be prepared for when your family inevitably gets sick!

I had a dear friend do this for our family when all five of us were sick. She included cold drops for the baby, stickers for the big boys, and my favorite lip balm. Such a thoughtful touch that I haven’t forgotten!

Don’t have any mason jars?

I usually don’t have extra mason jars lying around the house. Instead of buying new jars, I like to save jars from jams, sauces, etc. I clean them in hot, soapy water, and they’re ready to use!

If we have time, my kids and I decorate the jars to add an extra handmade touch. Some paint, ribbon, and a handmade card can go a long way. I share some of those ideas here.

Truthfully, it doesn’t matter what you put your gift in. Although I am a big fan of “small touches,” I also know there are seasons when all you have is a Ziploc bag, and that is more than enough.

Happy gifting!
