Forget-me-not flowers are a thoughtful way to commemorate loss and hardship. We created several beginner-friendly embroidery patterns for you to make at home. Whether you’re walking through a difficult season, or want to share with a friend, these patterns make a precious gift.
There are seasons of life that are just heavy.
I have walked with friends through many of these seasons of loss, particularly miscarriage.
I do not write this post lightly. The pain that comes with losing something so precious and dear can’t be put into words.
Many years ago, I wanted something to gift to my friends enduring this season. Something simple, beautiful, and memorable.
A gift they could display, hang on their Christmas tree, or keep in a drawer.
So I created my “Forget-Me-Not” embroidered hoops. Although I include these in my shop as an option for someone who does not embroider, I have always wanted to produce and share my pattern for free.

“Forget-Me-Not” Embroidered Hoop Pattern
Materials:
- 6″ embroidery hoop
- Fabric
- 2 green embroidery floss (DMC 3052, DMC 935)
- 2 blue embroidery floss (DMC 334, DMC 806)
- Cream embroidery floss (DMC 746)
- Needles
- Scissors
- Embroidery Pens OR Water Soluble Paper
Process
- Download the “forget-me-not bundle” to have access to the printable patterns.
- Print the blank hoop pattern (page 5) onto water soluble paper, and center it on your project.*
- This pattern is completely beginner friendly and uses the following stitches:
- Stems: stem stitch*
- Leaves – lazy daisy
- Blue flower petals – lazy daisy
- French knots throughout
- When finished, secure back.
“Forget-Me-Not” Embroidered Bookmark Pattern
Materials:
- 2 cardstock bookmarks
- 2 green embroidery floss (DMC 3052, DMC 935)
- 2 blue embroidery floss (DMC 334, DMC 806)
- Yellow embroidery floss (DMC 444)
- Needles
- Scissors
Process:
- Download the “forget-me-not bundle” to have access to the printable patterns.
- Print the bookmark pattern (page 1 of bundle), and cut to fit your first bookmark.
- Use the pattern markings to poke holes along the pattern (this will make it easier to stitch.)
- Remove paper pattern.
- Use your pre-made holes to stitch your pattern. Here are the stitches I recommend:
- Flower Stem: back stitch
- Flower petals: lazy daisy
- Flower center: french knot
- Using a running stitch, secure your second bookmark to the first. This covers up the messy back!
Questions:
What if I do not have water soluble paper?
If you do not have water soluble paper, you can simply print the pattern on regular printer paper. Place the pattern behind the fabric of your project, and hold it up to the window. You can then trace your pattern with an embroidery pen!
Do I stitch the entire circle of this pattern?
This is completely up to you. You can use the stem stitch to create a wreath all the way around, or simply just stitch the florals and their stems.
